​COLUMBIA WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL PROGRAMS


​Our programs and activities are designed to educate and inform our members about real issues that drive world affairs, and also to provide rare opportunities to interact directly with leaders on the world stage.

​Distinguished Speakers Series

Luncheons and dinners featuring distinguished local, national and international experts and policymakers discussing timely international issues.

Lunch and Learn
Informal small open-discussion luncheons.

A Taste of the World Series
Monthly dinners at a new international restaurant in the Midlands, encouraging  social interaction among members, staff and the board. Good food, company and cuisine.

International Visitor Leadership Programs
(IVLP)

The Columbia World Affairs Council and the Columbia Council for Internationals are   designated by the U.S. State Department as the Midlands affiliate to receive visitors under the Global Ties/USA program.

Sister Cities of Columbia

A program dedicated to furthering global understanding among the citizens of  Columbia by encouraging and assisting the City and its citizens to link with similar communities around the world. The goal is for the communities involved to learn more about each other and develop lasting and meaningful exchanges in the fields of business, education, medicine, religion and culture. Academic WorldQuest
Teams from high schools in the Midlands of SC are invited to compete in this international knowledge competition. Categories include world history, flags, foreign policy, geography and current events. The winning school is invited to participate in the national Academic WorldQuest competition hosted by the World Affairs Councils of America. For more information and to register, please click

​Global Vision Award Gala

Annual award recognizing an individual, organization or business that has helped to expand South Carolina’s international horizons. The recipient is honored at a black-tie dinner gala. Learn more about the Global Vision Award and becoming a sponsor HERE.

​Happy Hour
Introduction of new members and networking event.

Conversation Groups
Informal gatherings of individuals interested in practicing/maintaining their foreign language skills. Groups meet in French, Spanish, and Chinese. Learn more about our conversation groups HERE.
